Los Angeles / London, 23 May, 2012. Sony Pictures Television (SPT) today announced the appointment of Wayne Garvie as Chief Creative Officer, International Production, SPT. In this role, Garvie will be responsible for driving creative development across SPT's global network of joint venture companies and its production studios outside of Los Angeles, turning locally developed properties into global formats and fostering co developments across the group. He will report to Andrea Wong, President, SPT International Production.
Making the appointment, Andrea Wong said, "Wayne's creative leadership across international businesses and his pedigree in entertainment production need little introduction. SPT's International Production business spans the globe, covering Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Latin America and the US. It runs wholly owned SPT production companies in Russia, Germany, France, Lebanon, Egypt, Dubai and Miami. The business also operates joint venture production companies in the UK (Gogglebox Entertainment, Victory Television and Silver River), France (Starling), Netherlands/Belgium (Tuvalu Media), Lean-M (Russia), Italy (Toro), China (Huaso), Brazil (Floresta), Colombia (Teleset) and the US (Embassy Row).
These companies develop original content for local broadcasters across a wide variety of genres such as gameshow, drama, comedy, telenovela and documentary. They also deliver local format productions from SPT's library of over 150,000 television episodes. SPT international formats include factual entertainment series such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, The Dr Oz Show and Dragons' Den, and sitcoms such as Married?with Children and Everybody Loves Raymond.
Wayne Garvie will join SPT from All3MEDIA, where he has been Managing Director International Production since January 2011, with special responsibility for the company's growth in the US. Previously, Garvie was Managing Director for Content and Production at BBC Worldwide, responsible for establishing the corporation's global network of production companies, independent UK production ventures and international format hits such as Dancing with the Stars and Top Gear. Garvie has also held senior positions in UK broadcasting, including Head of Entertainment for the BBC and Director of Broadcasting for Granada. He will take up his new role in June this year.
