Sony Pictures Television (SPT) today announced that it has acquired a minority stake in the UK-based production company Eleventh Hour Films (EHF). As part of the deal, SPT will internationally distribute the company’s new content to bring their high-quality drama series and films to audiences around the world.
The independent production company led by Jill Green, Eve Gutierrez, Paula Cuddy and Nicole Finnan, who together form the Senior Management team, has produced such series as Foyle’s War for ITV, New Blood for BBC One, Vexed for BBC Two and, most recently, two seasons of ITV’s Safe House.
This latest investment further builds on SPT’s commitment to partnering with exceptional independent producers to bring audiences exciting, new premium content.
Wayne Garvie, President, International Production, Sony Pictures Television said: “We are thrilled to be deepening our relationship with the passionate and visionary women of EHF, who are among the sharpest and most motivated producers we’ve met. We look forward to seeing their strong roster of projects develop further and helping them achieve their future vision for the business.”
The news follows the recent green-light announcement of the eight-episode adaptation of Anthony Horowitz’s best-selling teen spy novel series, Alex Rider, the first deal of its kind with SPT’s International Distribution and Production units collaborating to fully fund the series produced by EHF.
SPT Distribution and EHF are also in partnership on other projects, including an eight-part Anglo/American paranormal drama series Rendlesham, inspired by real-life events in the 1980’s, and drama The Caine Mutiny, an eight-part event serial adapted by Anthony Horowitz from the Pulitzer Prize Novel by Herman Wouk.
Nicole Finnan, EHF’s Managing Director, said: “This is an exciting and natural extension of our already strong relationship with Wayne and his team. It will help fulfill EHF’s ambition for our content to have a truly global reach and adds greater strategic muscle worldwide. Jill Green, Chief Executive of EHF, adds: “This is an exciting growth phase, driven out of a dynamic team and great talent relationships.”
Chief Executive, Green is a seasoned creative force in the UK, previously setting up and running Greenlit Productions, producing ITV’s detective series Foyle’s War and drama series Collision and feature film The American starring George Clooney.
Gutierrez joined EHF as Head of Talent and Executive Producer after working alongside Green at Greenlit Productions where she produced ITV’s critically acclaimed series Collison and Injustice. While at EHF, Gutierrez has produced BBC’s crime series New Blood and comedy drama Vexed.
Cuddy, EHF’s Creative Director, previously developed Sky’s Strike Back with Left Bank Pictures, also part of the SPT group, and script edited the BBC medical drama Bodies, as well as working on BBC One’s soap EastEnders. While at EHF, Cuddy originated and developed returning series Safe House for ITV.
Managing Director, Finnan joined EHF from Ruby Film and Television. Prior to Ruby, Finnan was the Commercial/Finance Director at Ecosse Films for 10 years. She has executive produced various feature films and TV series, including Becoming Jane, Brideshead Revisited, Case Histories for BBC One and the last two series of Foyle’s War. She started her career at KPMG.
