Teleseries Will Premiere on TNT, Followed by Claro Video

MIAMI, October 20, 2014 — Sony Pictures Television announced today that it has secured key subscription linear and subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) deals that will bring its explosive new teleseries “Señorita Pólvora” to Latin American audiences in as many as 42 territories across Latin America, including Brazil.

Turner Broadcasting System Latin America has acquired the exclusive, first-run subscription TV rights to “Señorita Pólvora.” The series is slated to premiere on TNT in early 2015, marking the first time in Latin America that viewers will be able to experience the highly-anticipated teleseries.

In addition, DLA has secured the SVOD rights to “Señorita Pólvora” for Claro video, with episodes available on the streaming platform just days after their TNT premiere.

“As premium content continues to drive viewership across the region, we believe there are great  opportunities to work with multiple platforms like TNT and Claro video to bring series like ’Señorita Pólvora’ to the largest possible audience,” says Alexander Marin, senior vice president, distribution, Latin America & US Hispanic for Sony Pictures Television.

“’Señorita Pólvora’ is a great acquisition for us as it is consistent with our strategy to incorporate local content on channels to further engage Latin American viewers,” says Angel Zambrano, vice president of acquisitions and syndication at Turner Broadcasting System Latin America. “As a high-quality production with an excellent leading couple in Camila Sodi and Ivan Sanchez, we are confident that this new teleseries has the key elements to become a huge success for TNT.”

“The addition of ‘Señorita Pólvora’ and other productions with Latin American themes and characters into Claro video’s platform allows us to offer our subscribers varied, attractive and highly differentiated programming that combines acclaimed international series and movies with the best content produced in our region,” commented Pablo Iacoviello, vice president for acquisitions at DLA, the company that administers the Claro Video platform.

“Señorita Pólvora,” Sony Pictures Television’s first co-production with Televisa, is inspired by the real life story of a beauty queen whose alleged connections to the underworld and a romantic affair with an assassin ultimately led to her untimely demise. The cast includes Camila Sodi (“Niñas Mal”) as Valentina, Ivan Sanchez (“La Reina Del Sur” and “La Tempestad”) as Miguel/M8, José María de Tavira (“Niño Santo” and “Arráncame la Vida”) as Vincente, and Saúl Lisazo (“El Rostro de la Venganza”) as Octavio. Daniel Ucros serves as executive producer, with Mauricio Cruz and Chava Cartas as the series’ directors.

Sony Pictures Television, along with its production company Teleset, develops, adapts, produces and co-produces hundreds of hours of original Spanish-language programming a year for audiences across Latin America, the U.S. Hispanic market, and around the world. The studio pioneered the teleseries genre and today boasts a robust portfolio of top-quality programming that includes series like “El Mariachi ” and “Metástasis,” as well as the forthcoming “En la Boca del Lobo,” “Lady, La Vendedora de Rosas” and “Señorita Pólvora.”
