TORO TV SCORES THREE NEW COMMISSIONS

Dragons’ Den, Grillmaster & Pastry Chef launching in Italy

London, 16 October 2014 – Sony Pictures Television’s (SPT) joint venture in Italy, Toro TV, is expanding its non-scripted production slate after striking deals with Mediaset, RAI and Discovery Networks Italia to produce local versions of Dragons’ Den, The Next Great Pastry Chef and Grillmaster respectively.

Toro TV will produce a local version of the format Grillmaster titled I Re Della Griglia for Discovery’s DMAX channel.  The 6 x 50 series is the first local adaptation to be made outside Scandinavia and will air at the end of October.

Grillmaster, created by Titan, part of the Nice Entertainment Group, sees nine contestants show off their grilling skills and compete against each other in a series of challenges. Each episode presents different themes and tasks, giving the keen cooks a chance to win a publishing deal and join the World Barbeque Championships in Sweden.

Grillmaster launched internationally at MIPCOM last year and is distributed globally by Sony Pictures Television, with the exclusion of Scandinavia. The series also airs in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, where it is distributed by Nice Entertainment Group, the holder of production rights for the Grillmaster format in Scandinavia.

In another deal, RAI has commissioned Toro TV to produce 5 x 90 series of Il più grande pasticcere, the local version of The Next Great Pastry Chef format. The series is currently in production and will air on RAI2 later this year.

Based on the French format by Martange Production, the show sees ten professional pastry chefs compete against each other to determine who will be the country’s next great pastry chef. The contestants are judged by a panel of three expert pastry chefs and the competition takes place in a Pastry Academy as well in several towns around the country.

Separately, Toro TV will produce 6 episodes of Shark Tank, based on the Dragons’ Den format from NTV Japan, after striking a deal with Mediaset for its channel Italia 1. The show will air in 2015.

Dragons’ Den, distributed internationally by SPT, gives budding entrepreneurs the opportunity to secure life-changing sums of money and expertise from some of the biggest names in business. It is one of the world’s most successful business shows with local versions produced in countries including the US (Shark Tank), UK, Canada, Australia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Nigeria, Turkey, Poland, Sweden, Czech Republic, Germany and Spain.

Toro TV is one of Italy’s leading talent producers with its programme portfolio including global hit The Voice for RAI2 - which made worldwide headlines earlier this year when a Catholic nun took to the stage – as well as Rising Star for Mediaset.
