London, 28 January 2013. Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has inked the first international format deal for its horror gameshow, Release the Hounds, with German broadcaster ProSieben, following the show’s original UK debut. The new deal was struck by SPT Productions Germany which will produce a two hour special for ProSieben to air in March. The German version will be called Scream! If you Can and be filmed in partnership with the show’s creators, Gogglebox Entertainment, in the UK.
Astrid Quentell, MD and SVP, Production, Germany, Sony Pictures Television said: “Release the Hounds caused a stir when we first pitched the format, it is unlike anything else on TV with its unique mix of horror and game play. ProSieben is the perfect partner as we set out to terrify German audiences with the scariest gameshow in television.”
Vice President Entertainment ProSieben, Daniel Rosemann: “Once again ProSieben is leading the way in entertainment innovation. With Scream! If you Can this new mystery genre will celebrate its debut on German televisioin for the first time. We are very happy to secure the first international format deal for this series and look forward to presenting it to our audience.“
Release The Hounds sees unsuspecting contestants enter a forest at dusk where they face terrifying challenges to get their hands on money locked in chests. But, if they want to keep it they then have to out-run a pack of hounds guarding the loot.
Release the Hounds first debuted on ITV2 in October last year as a special which close to doubled its audience during the week and generated the UK’s #1 trend on twitter during broadcast. On the back of this success, ITV2 last week ordered a full series for 2014.
The format was created by Gogglebox Entertainment, a joint venture with SPT. The format is distributed globally by SPT.
