U.S. Distribution Business Operations and Strategy
Chris Elwell serves as executive vice president, U.S. distribution business operations and strategy for Sony Pictures Television (SPT). In this role, Elwell oversees sales planning and strategy, business affairs and sales/syndication administration for the studio's U.S. television distribution, ad sales and digital distribution efforts. This includes licensing and delivery of feature films, television properties, digital channels and new media products across all third party and company-owned platforms. Elwell also leads the strategic planning for all forms of distribution, identifying and developing U.S. television and cross-platform sales opportunities.
Previously, Elwell served as senior vice president, U.S. distribution. He joined Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) in 2002, serving as vice president, legal affairs, corporate and distribution. In this position, Elwell supervised deal negotiations and provided legal counsel for product acquisition and distribution in all forms of television and digital distribution worldwide. Elwell's expertise in free and pay television, new media and emerging technologies, as well as digital rights management and policy made him a key advisor to senior studio management on emerging forms of distribution and on the organization of SPE's on-demand and new media businesses. Elwell came to SPE from IFILM Corp., where he was a senior vice president of business affairs, corporate secretary and general counsel.
He has a JD from Stanford and was a Rhodes Scholar.
