Scripted Development, International Production
Jeff Lerner is executive vice president, scripted development, international production for Sony Pictures Television (SPT). Based in Culver City, Lerner is responsible for the development of scripted formats internationally as well as scripted format sales and acquisitions.
Lerner has brought shows such as Ugly Betty, Married...with Children, and The Nanny to audiences in several territories. Most recently, he developed Everybody Loves Raymond for Poland, India and Egypt, Married... with Children for Israel, Rules of Engagement for Poland and Mad About You for China. Working closely with local content producers and broadcasters, Lerner has also developed original series, including the highly rated period drama Poor Anastasia in Russia, and the acclaimed comedy De Moda in Spain. Lerner was instrumental in launching SPT's business in Russia, opening its Moscow office in 2005 and building it with a string of primetime ratings leaders. Prior to his Russia stint, Lerner developed sitcoms, dramas, telenovelas and talk/reality shows for the US Hispanic market, Mexico, France, Spain, Poland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Greece, Croatia, and Argentina.
Before joining Sony Pictures, Lerner was executive story editor for MTV's The Real World and before that, producer for The Other Side for NBC. He also had a stint as head of development for Tele-Images, a leading French production company. Lerner began his entertainment career on the NBC daytime drama Santa Barbara where he worked in various capacities for five years, the last two as producer, during which time the series won multiple consecutive Emmy Awards as Outstanding Daytime Drama Series.
Lerner received a BA in Commerce from McGill University in Montreal and an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management.
